This summer I worked on a research project to advise GitHub on how it can better manage and protect the intellectual property of GitHub users, particularly when multiple developers are contributing code to a single project. This was cool because the legal policy I helped GitHub implement will likely be followed by those in the open source community that look to GitHub for guidance.
Most of my work this summer centered around legal questions that courts have yet to resolve. This internship made me realize just how much current law is lagging behind rapidly developing technology. Spending the summer at GitHub gave me a unique opportunity to address emerging legal issues in intellectual property law on an open source platform.
Favorite Internship Memory
One of my favorite memories was when all the interns went on a surprise field trip to a street art studio! We learned different spray paint and stenciling techniques and then, in true GitHub fashion, got to collaborate on a huge art piece together to display in GitHub HQ.
